Back in time...to the 60's!!

This is the main house and what now are the Hay Barn and Tobacco Barn gites as they were on the day when the previous owners, Jan & Pip, bought the property in the early 1960's.

We've met the previous owners twice in the last few weeks and they have let us borrow some amazing photographic records of the work they did originally to the property before the barns were converted to gites. The house had been empty for about 12 years so you can imagine what it was like before restoration work was carried out.

I'll post more before and now pics soon!!

Keystone uncovered

Latest find! What better way to spend boxing day.....letting myself loose on the vine and wisteria that runs along the front of the house, thinning out the dead branches and twigs that haven't been touched for years i spotted for the first time since we moved in, this keystone above the front door, so no doubt as to the date of the construction of the house now.

Not quite sure what the hole beneath the date was for but have been given some old pictures from the previous owners which may reveal if it was a lamp or something similar....i'll let you know if i find anything!!

Find no 2!!

Last night was very cold, tonight will be even colder but the open fire in the main house lounge is keeping us really warm. We had a delivery of logs the other weekend, 4 cubes of 2 year aged oak which is burning really well. It took 3 of us about an hour to move the logs off the front drive and into dry storage in the main barn, needless to say our backs the next morning were a little on the stiff side but all the work was well worth it.

Another find that you may just be able to make out behind the flames of the fire, is an old iron plate measuring about 21" square with a coat of arms on it, not sure how much it weighs but it'll take 2 people to move it. Another bit of investigative work to be undertaken in the future!!
